KAMLOOPS - In just a few months, the city of Kamloops could have a new RV campground in Barnhartvale.

Eaglepoint Golf Resort wants to build a new campground just for RVs and trailers with a maximum of 70 spots.

In a proposal to city council yesterday, April 17, Tom Hong with the golf resort said they are seeing a high demand for this type of facility.

“Given the market research we thought there is a need for this type of business out there,” Hong said. He explained that seasonal occupancy seemed the most appropriate for this type of land use.

Coun. Denis Walsh asked if the proposed campground would let users live there throughout the entire year.

Development and Engineering Services director Marvin Kwiatkowski assured council the new proposed campground would only let users stay for six months or less. He explained the current city bylaws regarding campgrounds do not allow people to stay for more than six months.

Kwiatkowski said people may park a RV year round but they will only be there for six months at a time.

The proposal says a minimum of 25 per cent of the spots will be designated for temporary stays of 30 consecutive days or less.

Council approved the motion to have the golf resort’s rezoning application be sent to a public hearing. If the proposal gets the green light, Hong says they plan to open for business in the summer or fall of this year.
