KAMLOOPS – The aggressive fire that took over a Sahali car rental dealership early this morning is considered suspicious and is under investigation by RCMP.

Investigators are still on scene and have not yet pinpointed the cause. Rob Chalmers, Kamloops Fire Rescue platoon captain says there were no injures, however a vehicle did crash into the building before the fire.

Chalmers says there is substantial and extensive damage to the office area and clean up bay of Budget Car Rental located at 820 Notre Dame Dr.

This morning, passerby Gary Price could see the vehicle that crashed into the building.

"I'm no detective, but when I see a truck backed into the showroom that smells like someone tried to break in and the place started on fire or they started it," Price says.

Kamloops Fire Rescue and RCMP responded to the call at 3:40 a.m. this morning, April 14.

"The initial attack on the interior very quickly became defensive because of the amount of fire and concern over structure integrity," Chalmers says.

RCMP closed the road to all motorists, cyclists and pedestrians at 4:05 a.m., according to a media release. Notre Dame Drive was reopened by 9 a.m.

Police are searching for anyone who was travelling on Notre Dame Drive near the time of the fire. Anyone who thinks they may have witnessed suspicious activity is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
