A Kamloops boy who is crazy about trains got a big surprise just in time for his seventh birthday.

Brandie Bugg and her young son returned home today, Feb. 14, to find a mysterious plastic bag in their yard.

Inside the bag was a water bottle and a printed note: “Hi, I tried throwing the gift over fence for your son but it got caught up in vines and fence on back side please look.”

She discovered another bag caught up in vines that had a brand new CN Rail toque in it.

Bugg said ever since she and her son moved to the Raleigh community along the tracks last summer, he has been running out to wave at the trains passing by on the other side of their fence.

“Sometimes they honk the train horn for him. My son is obsessed with trains. He wants to be a train conductor when he grows up," she said.

It was a special coincidence that the boy’s birthday is Wednesday.

“I think it was thrown over a while ago, we found it a perfect time,” Bugg said. “He was so surprised. He was jumping up and down in excitement and couldn’t wait to put the toque on.”

Bugg posted a photo of the CN employee’s note on social media and it's getting a lot of attention.

“The post is getting a lot of love and it is cool it is Valentines Day. It restored my faith in humanity that someone would be so kind to see a little boy out there waving and make this kind of effort. We are thankful and feeling a lot of love here.”
