KELOWNA - Healthy kids equal happy parents.

It's YMCA Healthy Kids Day in Kelowna on May 5 and the YMCA encourages everyone to join in the fun from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rutland Sports fields. The fields will be swarming with activities – over 50 in fact. There will be healthy snacks, heart-pumping entertainment and it’s all free.

The idea behind Health Kids Day is to bring families together to engage in fun, active play and learn healthier habits to help then grow and thrive, according to the YMCA. The organization reports that the 2018 Participation Report Card on physical activity for children and youth says that only 35 per cent of kids aged five to 17 are reaching their recommended physical activity levels.

“The Y believes that no one should be turned away because they can’t afford the full fee to participate. At YMCA Healthy Kids Day, everything from the park and pool activities to snacks is free to everyone,” Sofia Kozachenko with the YMCA says in a media release.

Be sure to pack up the whole gang and head out for fun and fitness Sunday afternoon.
