KAMLOOPS - The cool temperatures and showers today in Kamloops won't linger much longer with a sunny and warm weekend in the forecast.

Environment Canada meteorologist Johathan Bau says things are looking up after an upper cold low currently over Kamloops moves east tomorrow. That upper low has created a trough, bringing the threat of thunderstorms, hail and showers to Kamloops today, July 18.

A building ridge of high pressure is expected for Friday, which should begin clearing the skies and warming temperatures in time for the weekend.

Mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 30s are expected to dominate the Kamloops weather pattern well into next week.

Today is expected to be mainly cloudy with a 70 per cent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms. Winds are expected to become west at 20 km/h near noon, with a high of 20 Celsius and a low of 12 C. There’s also a 30 per cent chance of showers lingering into the evening, along with a risk of a thunderstorm this evening and overnight.

Friday should be mainly cloudy with a high of 21 C and a low of 11 C.

On Saturday and Sunday expect to see mainly sunny conditions with a high of 29 C Saturday and a high of 32 C on Sunday, with overnight lows around 14 C.

Expect to see similar conditions Monday through Wednesday next week, as the forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the low 30s.

Kamloops’s normal high and low for this part of July is 29 C and 14 C.
