iNwine Wednesday: Drink Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery Gewürztraminer

Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery makes a beautiful Gewürztraminer

iNwine Wednesday star of the week is Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer, affectionately known as Gew offers one of the biggest bouquets in the wine world. Like an exotic fruit basket with a few flowers stuffed into it and maybe some spices for extra perfume, Gewürztraminer is a white wine that is easy to recognize in a tasting because of its distinct lychee aromas.

The German name Gewürztraminer literally means "Spice Traminer" or "Perfumed Traminer", and originally comes Alsace. Many times misunderstood as a sweet wine, Gew can be enjoyed all year long and pairs really well with spicy foods, mild cheeses and turkey dinner. Give it a gew!

Winery tasting notes:

An off-dry style of Gewürztraminer that seeks to express the hallmark characteristics of the grape - aromatic, floral, and rich. Spice driven cuisine is the perfect match. These grapes were farmed primarily at South Rock Vineyard along the Golden Mile Bench, with a small portion coming out of Lazy River Vineyard in South Cawston.

Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery is located in West Kelowna, right off the main thoroughfare heading towards Lake Okanagan. The winery has deep roots in our industry and has vineyards across the Okanagan to draw from allowing a diverse repertoire of wines.

Manager of Viticulture Brett Thiessen is passionate about returning the vineyards to their natural state and converting to organic practices.

"This task may take a few years to achieve, but will result in long-term sustainability and ultimately increasingly honest and pure wines," GM Jesse Harnden says.

The winery is still under construction as it performs an exciting makeover, but the original tasting room is still open for business!
