KELOWNA - A Kelowna local who has innovated the B.C. wine industry is being honoured with an official induction into the Order of Canada.

According to a press release, Howard Soon will be made a member of the Order of Canada later this year. Soon, who works with Vanessa Vineyard in the south Similkameen Valley., is joined by 82 of Canada's best and brightest.

Soon will be the first B.C. winemaker to make it into the Order of Canada, making the occasion even more special.

In a release from Vanessa Vineyard, John Schreiner, a prolific author of wine books, said Soon's induction is well-earned.

Throughout his illustrious career, his wines have won more than 100 major awards," Schreiner said in the released. "He has mentored numerous other winemakers. He was a pioneer in championing single vineyard wines and in elucidating the concept of terroir."

The Order of Canada's ceremony date will be announced at a later time.
