Improved lighting at three intersections in the Township of Spallumcheen will increase safety for motorists and pedestrians in this rural Okanagan community.

"Improved intersection lighting enhances safety for vehicles approaching and exiting intersections and is all the more important as we enter into winter and reduced daylight hours," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. "I'm pleased to see this community enhancement project move forward in the Township of Spallumcheen."

Enhanced intersection lighting will be installed at Mcleery Road, Mountain View Road and Back Enderby Road.

"This project builds on our UBCM commitment from 2015 to improve intersection lighting on Highway 97A in the Township," said Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo. "These small but important lighting improvements will contribute to the overall safety for local pedestrians and motorists."

The total project budget is $80,000. Electrical work has already begun and the project is expected to be complete by Dec. 15, 2016.
