B.C.'s Electoral Officer to consider Internet voting in provincial elections

B.C.'s Electoral Officer to consider Internet voting in provincial elections

VICTORIA - Voting in provincial elections in B.C. could one day be just a click away.

Attorney General Shirley Bond has asked the province's chief electoral officer to set up a panel to consider the potential of Internet voting.

She says the panel will review online voting in other jurisdictions and look for any potential problems.

Bond says if the independent panel can ensure the integrity of casting ballots on the Internet, she's optimistic it could make voting even more accessible in the province.

Nola Western, at Elections B.C., says members of the review panel will include experts in cryptography, Internet security, electoral administration and technology generally.

She says the panel could have its first meeting as early as next month and will set its own deadline for reporting back to the legislature. (The Canadian Press,CKNW)
