KAMLOOPS — A Ugandan children's choir that lost thousands of dollars in cash and equipment in a vehicle break-in in Vancouver are stopping in Kamloops on their way east tonight.

Sawuti choir, which consists of seven children ages 8 to 15, are travelling across Canada to raise money for underprivileged children in Uganda and Rwanda.

The group was doing a street concert in Vancouver and went out for lunch when their parked vehicle was broken into. The choir lost an estimated $7,000 in cash, and an additional amount in cheques and computers for a total of nearly $15,000 in losses.

"It would have sponsored 14 kids in Uganda and Rwanda for a year," says Dan Lal who is helping to organize the group's performance at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship.

The concert will be happening today, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. at 702 Columbia Street in Kamloops.

Donations will be accepted.
