iN TRAFFIC: Wet roads and tons of fresh snow at Big White
It’s looking like a wet one for drivers in the Interior today, Jan. 13.
DriveB.C. is reporting water pooling on Highway 1 between Chase and Sicamous; on the Coquihalla 10 kilometres south of the Great Bear Snowshed; on Highway 6EW between Cherryville and Monashee Summit; on Highway 97A from Enderby to Sicamous, and on Westside Road between Shelter Cove and Highway 97 North.
DriveB.C. is also advising drivers to watch for slippery sections along Highway 3 from Princeton to Hedley; and Highway 5A from Princeton to Gulliford Lake Rest Area. It’s snowing on Highway 97C between Loon Lake Road and Merritt, and it’s also slushy with slippery sections between Pennask Summit and Merritt.
Charles Andrews commutes from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A, and he said the road was bare and wet road the entire way this morning. There were patches of fog, it rained the whole way, and water was pooling.
"Opportunities to hydroplane for those who like to go weeee," he said.
Looking at weather, Kamloops will reach a high of 7 Celsius and is in for a low of 5 C. Vernon will get a high of 3 C and low of 2 C. Kelowna is in for a high of 7 C and low of 3 C. And in Penticton temperatures however between 7 C ad 8 C. There is a high chance of showers throughout the Okanagan today, and a low chance in Kamloops.
Skiers and boarders will appreciate that Big White Mountain Resort has 27 centimetres of new snow and 58 cm in the past 48 hours. There has been 3 cm of now Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past 24 hours and 8 cm in the past two days; SilverStar Mountain Resort last got 5 cm on Dec. 30 and has a fresh snow depth of 15 cm; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 3 cm of new snow and 30 cm over the past week.
