iN TRAFFIC: Watch for slippery roads as cold continues
Interior highways have some slippery spots today, Dec. 15.
DriveB.C. is reporting that Highway 1 has slippery between Kamloops and Sicamous; Highway 3 has compact snow between Princeton and Hedley, and slippery sections from Hedley to Keremeos; Highway 5A has slippery sections from the start of the highway to Junction Highway 97C; Highway 6 EW has slippery sections from Vernon to Cherryville; Highway 97 has slippery sections between Coldstream and Vernon, and from Summerland to Kelowna; Highway 97A has slippery sections from Enderby to Sicamous; Highway 97B has slippery sections throughout; Highway 97C has slippery sections from West Kelowna to the Pennack Summit; and Westside Road has slippery sections.
Charles Andrews commuted from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A this morning, and reports the roads are in great shape.
"Mostly bare and dry," he said.
Looking at the weather forecast, temperatures in Kamloops will start at -7 Celsius this morning before reaching the high of -5 C around noon; in Vernon and Kelowna temperatures will go from -5 C to -4 C back to -5 C; and Penticton will get a high of 0 and low of -3 C. It will be a cloudy day throughout the region.
At the ski hills, Big White Ski Resort is reporting 19 centimetres of new snow in the past week and an alpine snow base is at 100 cm; Sun Peaks Ski Resort got 27 cm in the past week and its alpine snow base is at 90 cm; SilverStar Mountain Resort’s last significant snowfall was 6 cm on Dec. 10 and its snow base is 116 cm; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 4 cm in the past 34 hours, 8 cm in the past week, an alpine snow base of 121 cm.
Only 10 more days until Christmas.
