iN TRAFFIC: Temperatures back on the rise
Interior highways appear to be flowing smoothly this morning, Jan. 6.
Highway 97 will be closed in both directions between 1 and 2 p.m. this afternoon for rock blasting, according to DriveB.C.
DriveB.C. is also reporting Highway 1 has slippery sections and compact snow between Jackass Mountain Summit and Spences Bridge; Highway 3A has black ice between Keremeos and Kaleden; Highway 3 has slippery sections from Keremeos to Greenwood; Highway 5 has slippery sections from the Coquihalla Summit to Surrey Lake Summit; Highway 6EW has slippery sections from Coldstream to Needles; Highway 97 has black ice between Okanagan Falls and Summerland; Highway 97C has slippery sections from West Kelowna to Merritt; and Highway 97D has slippery sections throughout.
Charles Andrews, who commutes from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A, say the road was bare and dry all the way this morning.
Looking at weather, Kamloops is in for high of 1 Celsius and low of -2 C. Vernon and Kelowna will get a high of 2 C and low of -2 C. And in Penticton temperatures will start at 0 and work their way up to 5 C by noon.
At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting 15 centimetres over the past week and an alpine snow base of 138 cm. There has been 11 cm at Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past week where there is an alpine base of 127 cm; the ’s last significant snowfall at SilverStar Mountain Resort, where the alpine snow base is 147 cm, was 5 cm on Dec. 28; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 2 cm of new snow, 9 cm over the past week, and an alpine snow base of 158 cm.
