iN TRAFFIC: Temperatures are getting warmer in Kamloops and the Okanagan
There are a few things for travellers in the Interior to keep in mind today, Feb. 4.
DriveB.C. is reporting Highway 1 has slushy sections near Sicamous; Highway 3 has slippery sections from Princeton to Hedley; Highway 5 has compact snow from the Great Bear Snowshed to Coquihalla Summit; Highway 97 has slippery sections from Coldstream to Vernon; Highway 97C has slippery sections from Merritt to West Kelowna; and Highway 97D has slippery sections throughout.
Anybody travelling on Highway 5 north of Kamloops can expect delays because a vehicle recovery is underway. The highway will be down to single lane alternating traffic between Kealty Road and Orchard Lake Road until 5 p.m.
Temperatures will remain above the negatives throughout Kamloops and the Okanagan. Environment Canada is forecasting Kamloops will warm from 1 Celsius to 7 C by 4 p.m. and then drop down to 4 C tonight. In Vernon and Kelowna, temperatures will rise from 0 this morning to 4 C in the afternoon and back to 0 by tonight. Penticton will warm from 2 C to 6 C and then dip down to 0 tonight. There is a high chance of flurries in Vernon and Kelowna tonight.
At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting 15 centimetres over the past week and an alpine snow base of 188 cm. There has been 9 cm at Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past week where there is an alpine base of 179 cm; the last significant snowfall at SilverStar Mountain Resort, where the alpine snow base is 194 cm, was 4 cm on Jan. 31; and Apex Mountain Resort got 4 cm of snow four days ago.
“There is going to be a mix of groomed runs, and still a few powder pockets out there for you today,” according to the Apex snow report.
