iN TRAFFIC: Interior roads are in good shape for a winter day
Roads are slippery in areas but there are no major issues to report in the Interior so far for Dec. 1.
Black ice and blowing snow have been reported along Highway 3 between Osoyoos and Keremeos, and also on Highway 97 from Kaleden to Osoyoos, according to Drive B.C.
Slippery sections have been reported on Highway 1 from Jackass Mountain Summit to Kamloops and between Chase and Rogers Pass Summit; Highway 5 in the Merritt area from the Portia exit and Coldwater Road, and also from Larson Hill to the Walloper exit; Highway 5A from the start of the highway to Junction Highway 97C, all throughout Highways 97A and 97B, Highway 97C from the Pennask Summit to Merritt, as well as Westside Road.
Charles Andrews drove Highway 97A from Armstrong to Sicamous early this morning. Between and Armstrong and Grindrod the roads were mostly dry and bare, he reports. From Grindrod to Sicamous roads were mostly bare and wet. There was a strip of snow and ice down the middle of the road the whole distance.
“Lots of sand on the corners and around Mara Lake,” Andrews said. “Temperature according to my vehicle thermometer said -7 Celsius.”
For today’s weather, folks in Kamloops will start the day at -16 C before things warm to -12 C around 1 2 p.m., and temperatures will drop back down to -16 C tonight. In Vernon and Kelowna, there is a chance of flurries this morning, and the day started with temperatures at -12 C before things will warm to -7 C and dip to -14 C tonight. Penticton’s day begins at -6 C and is forecasted to gradually drop to -9 C throughout the day.
For skiers and boarders, Big White Ski Resort got 4 centimetres of snow in the past 24 hours and 60 cm over the past week. At Sun Peaks Ski Resort, 2 cm have been reported in the past ay and 25 cm over the past 48 hours.
