iN TRAFFIC: Heavy snowfall warning issued for many Southern Interior highways
An Arctic front moving into the Southern Interior from the East Kootenays will bring up to 20 centimetres of snow to some locations today, Dec. 6.
Snowfall warnings have been issued for Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, parts of the West Kootenays and north along the Yellowhead highway from Tete Jaune Cache to the Alberta border. Accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are expected throughout those regions.
The snowfall is expected to ease by this afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
A snowfall warning has ended for eastern sections of the North Okanagan and Shuswap including Sicamous, Enderby and Lumby.
A special weather statement has also been continued for the Fraser Valley through to Hope with 10 cm of snow expected to fall through to Wednesday morning.
“The recent cold weather has primed the south coast for low elevation snowfall,” the statement says. “A low pressure system will spin up over Vancouver Island producing periods of light snow beginning this morning.”
The heavy snow is not expected to reach Kamloops or Kelowna with only a 30% to 40% chance of flurries today and this evening in each city. Highs are forecast to be -6 Celsius in Kamloops and -5 C in Kelowna.
The Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops and the Okanagan Connector have a 40% chance of flurries today.
Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton is expecting light snow starting this morning with two cm accumulating today and another two cm overnight.
Expect minor delays for a vehicle incident between Canoe Beach Drive NE and Bernie Road on Highway 1 through Salmon Arm. DriveBC says there lane closures in both direction. Watch our for traffic control.
It's single lane alternating traffic on Highway 8 west of Merritt due to downed hydro lines near Sunshine Valley Road East.

Sun Peaks had no new snow in the last 24 hours. It’s showing temperatures ranging from -8 C to -11 C with an alpine base of 77 cm.
Silver Star got five cm in the last 24 hours, creating an alpine base of 109 cm. It was -10 C this morning.
Big White had one cm of snow in the last 24 hours for an alpine base of 99 cm. It was -12 C early this morning.
Apex had no new snow in the last 24 hours. It has an alpine base of 120 cm and a temperature of -10 C.
