iN TRAFFIC: Drivers, prepare for a snowy day
There are some snowy highways in the Interior today.
DriveB.C. is reporting Highway 1 has limited visibility with snow between Cache Creek and Kamloops, and there is compact snow between Sicamous to and Glacier National Park; there are slippery sections of Highway 3 between Hedley and Eholt Summit; Highway 3A has slippery sections from Keremeos to Kaleden; there is limited visibility with snow on the Coquihalla Highway from Surrey Lake Summit to Kamloops; Highway 5A has slippery sectionns from Planet Mine Road to Hillside Way; Highway 97 has slushy slippery sections from north of Vernon to Osoyoos; and Highway 97B has slippery sections throughout.
A snowfall warning was in effect for Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, 10 to 20 centimetres in the forecast. However the warning was rescinded at 2:47 p.m.
For today’s weather, the temperature in Kamloops will remain steady at 0 for most of the day before dropping to -1 Celsius in the evening, with periods of snow this morning and chances of flurries tonight. Vernon and Kelowna will both be -3 C all day with periods of snow this morning and a chance of flurries tonight. Penticton is sitting at 0 this morning and will fluctuate between 1 C and 3 C throughout the day with periods of snow this morning and rain in the afternoon.
Looking at the ski hills, Big White Ski Resort is reporting 7 centimetres of new snow in the past 24 hours and 15 cm since last week. Sun Peaks Ski Resort got 10 cm since yesterday and 15 cm over the past week. SilverStar Mountain Resort is reporting 5 cm of fresh snow today, Dec. 10. And Apex Mountain Resort has 9 cm of new snow and 11 cm over the past week.
