Today is off to a wet start for anyone driving around in Kamloops or the Okanagan. 

DriveB.C. is reporting that it’s snowing on Highway 1 between Jackass Mountain Summit and Spences Bridge, there’s black ice between Chase and Sicamous, and it’s slushy with slippery sections from Sicamous to Revelstoke; Highway 5 is slushy with slippery sections from Great Bear Snowshed to Coquihalla Summit, and it’s snowing Coquihalla Summit to Merritt; Highway 8 has compact snow and slippery sections throughout; Highway 97 has slippery sections between Coldstream and Vernon; Highway 97A has slippery sections from Enderby to Sicamous; it’s snowing on Highway 97C from Pennask Summit to Merritt; and it’s snowing on Highway 97D.

Charles Andrews, who commutes to Sicamous from Armstrong via Highway 97A, said the road was good this morning.

“Mostly raining with a little snow that isn’t sticking,” he said. “No fog to speak of.”

Looking at weather, Kamloops will warm from 0 to 5 Celsius throughout the day. Vernon will get a high of 2 C and low of 0. Kelowna is in for a high of 3 C and low of 0. And in Penticton temperatures will start at 3 C today and warn up to 6 C by 5 p.m. Flurries and showers are in the forecast throughout the region.

At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting no new snow but 28 centimetres over the past week. There has been 5 cm of now Sun Peaks Ski Resort over the past 48 hours and 20 cm since last week; SilverStar Mountain Resort last got 5 cm on Dec. 30 and is expecting 3 cm today; and Apex Mountain Resort is reporting 5 cm of new snow and 31 cm over the past week.
