KAMLOOPS — Police and signs of product seizure could be seen at two illegal cannabis dispensaries in Kamloops today.

A police car was out front of the Canadian Safe Cannabis Services at 405 Tranquille Rd. on July 31 and a sign notifying the public of a cannabis product seizure by the Community Safety Unit was displayed on the front door of Boomer's Bud located on 12 Street.

The Community Safety Unit is responsible for the compliance and enforcement under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act with a focus on the illegal sale of cannabis, according to the B.C. government website. "(Community Safety Unit) investigators carry out compliance and enforcment activities against unlicensed cannabis retailers and other illegal sellers across the province."

Colin Hynes, a public affairs officer with the Public Safety and Solicitor General Communications Office says they cannot comment on the specifics of the raids at the two dispensaries.

"Community Safety Unit officers have been actively following-up with unlicensed retailers in communities across B.C. and are now increasing enforcement action," Hynes says in an emailed statement.

Calls to the City and RCMP have not been returned.
