SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Illinois State Police say troopers are stepping up traffic enforcement for Super Bowl weekend.
Acting Director Brendan Kelly says driving under the influence is the number one cause of traffic crashes and fatalities during the holidays, and he says "Super Bowl weekend is no different."
Troopers will focused on identifying impaired drivers and enforcing violations such as DUI, speeding, distracted driving and motorists not wearing their seat belts.
State police made more than 60 DUI arrests over last year's Super Bowl weekend. They investigated three alcohol-related crashes, and one fatal traffic crash.
The New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams meet in the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
