Hot start to the Okanagan weekend

Soaking up the sun in Kelowna on a hot day. Saturday looks like a good day to do more of the same this weekend, according to Environment Canada.

PENTICTON - The warm, sunny weather we’ve been experiencing in the Okanagan should stick around until at least Saturday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says conditions should be a bit unsettled today but a brief ridge of high pressure should make for some summery conditions on Friday and Saturday before another trough brings unsettled conditions to the valley on Sunday.

"it should be within a couple of degrees of record-setting heat on Saturday," Sekhon says.

The bad news is there are no large weather systems expected to bring any significant widespread moisture to the region in the forecast.

"Normally, June is the Okanagan's wettest month," he says.

In the Okanagan today, Environment Canada says to expect increasing cloudiness late this morning with a 30 per cent chance of showers along with a risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon.

Friday should see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 27 C.

It’s expected to clear overnight with a low of 15 C.

Saturday is expected to be hot and sunny with a high of 31 C expected, along with an overnight low of 15 C.

Sunday temperatures are expected to cool off a bit, with a high of 26 C under cloudy skies.

Sunday night the clouds remain, along with a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Monday should see a mix of sun and clouds, with a high of 26 C. Cloudy skies overnight could come with a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Normal temperatures for Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton for this time of year is 23 C and 10 C.
