KAMLOOPS — Hospital auxiliaries in Kamloops have pledged to raise $2.5 million for the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation over the next five years.

In a news release issued today, July 26, representatives with the hospital foundation have announced the longterm commitment of the afternoon and evening auxiliary groups at Royal Inland Hospital. More than 180 volunteers make up the two groups that have supported the hospital for more than 150 years.

The groups have supported the hospital by providing various pieces of medical equipment including X-ray machines, scopes, surgical equipment and beds.

“We pledge for the equipment according to the needs of the hospital and then fundraise to the pledge,” president of the afternoon auxiliary Lynn Littlejohns says in the release. “Our goal is always to meet these commitments for the care that people deserve.”

The afternoon auxiliary is made up of more than 160 volunteers and independently pledged $1.65 million for the current patient care needs and equipment for the new patient care tower.

These funds will be raised through the Victoria Street Thrift Seller, the hospital gift store, mobile carts and the group’s unique vendor program.

The evening auxiliary will pledge their $850,000 commitment through leasing the on-site coffee shop, vending machines and in-room televisions at Royal Inland Hospital and their annual craft fair.

“We just do the work, enjoy doing it and get to know we’re making a difference for people in need,” Littlejohn says.
