Hold and secure lifted at Kamloops secondary school after report of suspect with gun nearby

FILE PHOTO

KAMLOOPS - An Alberta teenager is in custody after allegedly having a BB gun at McArthur Island Park earlier today, forcing a lockdown at NorKam Secondary School.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police received a report of a male on McArthur Island who may have had a firearm, and out of an "abundance of caution" NorKam was asked to go into a hold and secure.

Officers arrived at the park and found the suspect who was dressed in camouflage clothing. A search found the 17-year-old had a BB gun in the form of a replica handgun.

Shelkie say the suspect is from Alberta and is previously known to police.

Officers will forward investigative information to Crown counsel who will determine what, if any, charges are appropriate.
