WHL Roundup: Bozon with four points as Ice hand Blazers 11th straight loss

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Tim Bozon had two goals and two assists as the Kootenay Ice defeated the host Kamloops Blazers 7-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League play.

Jaedon Descheneau scored twice and added an assist for the Ice (16-14-2), who halted a three-game slide, while Matt Alfaro and Zak Zborosky had a goal and an assist each. Luke Philp added a single goal.

Eric Krienke, Cole Ully and Josh Connolly scored for the Blazers (6-19-4), who have lost 11 games in a row.

Kootenay's Wyatt Hoflin made 30 saves for the win. Kamloops' Taran Kozun allowed five goals on 20 shots before getting pulled for Cole Kehler, who stopped 4-of-6 shots in 24 minutes of relief.

The Ice went 3 for 4 on the power play while the Blazers scored twice on four chances with the man advantage.

PATS 5 WARRIORS 4 (SO)

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Dyson Stevenson had a goal and an assist in regulation, then added the shootout winner, as Regina came from behind to edge the Warriors.

Chandler Stephenson led the Pats (17-13-1) offensively with two goals and an assist while Boston Leier scored once.

Brayden Point scored twice for Moose Jaw (8-18-5), who led 4-2 after 40 minutes of action, and Jesse Forsberg chipped in with three assists. Alexander Chirva and Kirk Johnson also scored for the Warriors.

Regina's Nick Schneider made 30 saves for the win as Moose Jaw's Justin Paulic stopped 30 shots in a losing cause.

BRONCOS 4 WHEAT KINGS 3

BRANDON, Man. — Eetu Laurikainen kicked out 38 shots as Swift Current slipped past Brandon.

Colby Cave had a goal and an assist for the Broncos (20-11-3) while Dakota Odgers, Cavin Leth and Andrew Johnson each scored once.

Rihards Bukarts, John Quenneville and Richard Nejezchleb scored for the Wheat Kings (15-15-2) and Colton Waltz had two assists.

Brandon's Jordan Papirny gave up four goals on 19 shots through two periods of action. Curtis Honey replaced Papirny to start the third and topped all seven shots he faced in relief.

OIL KINGS 5 WINTERHAWKS 4 (SO)

EDMONTON — Reid Petryk scored the shootout winner as the Oil Kings beat Portland for their fourth win in as many outings.

Edgars Kulda and Cody Corbett each had a goal and an assist for Edmonton (18-9-1) while Curtis Lazar and Dysin Mayo scored a goal apiece.

Taylor Leier scored two goals for the Winterhawks (21-5-4), who are 5-0-2 in their last seven games, and Nicolas Petan and Derrick Pouliot each had a goal and two assists.

Tristan Jarry made 33 saves for the Oil Kings. Portland's Brendan Burke stopped 37-of-41 shots in defeat.

HURRICANES 3 RAIDERS 1 (17-10-2) / HURRICANES (3-23-4)

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Teagan Sacher stopped 31 shots as the Hurricanes beat Prince Albert to snap a seven-game losing streak.

Tyler Wong scored the winner for Lethbridge (4-23-4) while Russell Maxwell and Riley Sheen had the others.

Dakota Conroy supplied the scoring for the Raiders (17-11-2).

Prince Albert's Nick McBride turned away 17-of-19 shots in defeat.

AMERICANS 4 COUGARS 3 (OT)

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Braden Purtill scored with 39 seconds remaining in overtime as Tri-City toppled the Cougars.

Lucas Nickles had a goal and two assists for the Americans (17-12-3) while Beau McCue and Marcus Messier each scored once.

Prince George (11-16-5) got goals from Aaron Macklin, Jordan Tkatch and Todd Fiddler.

Eric Comrie made 38 saves for Tri-City as Ty Edmonds turned away 36-of-40 shots for the Cougars.

ROCKETS 3 SILVERTIPS 1

KELOWNA — Ryan Olsen scored twice as the Rockets beat Everett for their fifth straight win.

Damon Severson scored the eventual winner for Kelowna (21-3-2) 57 seconds into the third period.

Carson Stadnyk recorded the only goal for the Silvertips (20-6-5).

Jordon Cooke made 26 saves for the Rockets while Austin Lotz stopped 22 shots for Everett.

THUNDERBIRDS 7 CHIEFS 3

SPOKANE, Wash. — Branden Troock had three goals and an assist and Shea Theodore tacked on four assists as Seattle crushed the Chiefs.

Justin Hickman scored twice for the Thunderbirds (17-9-4), who won their fifth game in a row, Jerret Smith had a goal and two assists and Roberts Lipsbergs scored once.

Adam Helewka scored twice for Spokane (18-11-2) and Mike Aviani had a goal and an assist.

Seattle's Justin Myles only had to make 12 saves for the win. Eric Williams allowed four goals on 17 shots for the Chiefs before giving way to Garret Hughson, who stopped 6-of-9 shots in 20 minutes of relief.

ROYALS 4 GIANTS 2

VICTORIA — Brandon Magee scored a power-play goal in the first period, and added an empty-netter in the third to lift the Royals over Vancouver.

Ben Walker and Taylor Crunk also scored for Victoria (20-11-1).

Cain Franson and Trace Elson scored for the Giants (13-12-7), who lost in regulation for the first time in 12 games, while Dalton Thrower added two assists.

Patrik Polivka made 23 saves for the win while Vancouver goalie Jared Rathjen stopped 22 shots in defeat.
