Krys Kolanos scores in shootout as Abbotsford Heat edge Texas Stars 2-1

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Krys Kolanos scored the shootout winner to lift the Abbotsford Heat over the Texas Stars 2-1 in American Hockey League action Saturday night.

Kolanos broke a 2-2 deadlock in the shootout on the final attempt, sliding the puck around the pad of goalie Jack Campbell.

Kolanos also scored in regulation for Abbotsford (15-5-6), which maintained its spot atop the Western Conference.

Matt Fraser recorded the lone goal for the Stars (13-8-4), who still haven't lost in regulation in six games (4-0-2).

Heat netminder Barry Brust stopped 39 shots, while Campbell finished with 25 saves.

Brust made his biggest save of the first period when he robbed the Stars' Alex Chiasson alone in front of the net on a power play.

While on a two-man power play the Stars opened the scoring at 5:13 in the second. Jordie Benn teed up Fraser for a one-timer from the point, giving him 10 goals on the season.

The Heat replied with a power-play goal of their own three minutes later. Ben Street found Kolanos at the side of the net with a perfect cross-ice pass, leaving the Calgary native with an open net to score on.

Brenden Dillon sent Travis Morin on a breakaway during the Stars' next power play but Brust stopped him with a pad save to keep the game tied.

But Brust's best save was about a minute into the overtime period when he got a piece of Jamie Oleksiak's shot from the slot with this glove, keeping the Heat alive.

In the shootout, T.J. Brodie and Roman Horak scored for the Heat, followed by Tomas Vincour and Benn scoring for Texas, before Kolanos ended it.
