Edmonton Oilers trade unsigned draft pick John Marino to Pittsburgh Penguins

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers have acquired a conditional sixth-round selection in the 2021 NHL draft from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for unsigned draft pick John Marino.

The Oilers took Marino, a defenceman, in the sixth round (154th overall) in 2015. The native of Brockton, Mass., has played three NCAA seasons at Harvard.

The Oilers get the sixth-round pick from Pittsburgh if Marino, 22, signs an entry-level deal or if the Penguins trade his rights as an unsigned player before the 2021 draft.

"John is a mobile defenceman who excels at moving the puck while also playing with an edge to his game," said Penguins GM Jim Rutherford. "We are excited to acquire him as we continue to add defensive depth to the organization. The next step is to work on getting a contract done with him.”
