VERNON – A trailer, with 4 snowmobiles inside, burst into flames on Highway 97 just south of Vernon Saturday morning while being towed by a pick-up truck.

Vernon Fire Rescue Capt. Darren Cecchini says people driving past the burning trailer noticed smoke pouring out. They got the attention of the men in the truck who pulled over near the Tel-a-Friend Motel on 15th Street and 32nd Avenue.

“When they pulled over the trailer burst into flames,” according to Cecchini.

The Alberta men in the truck managed to get two of the sleds out of the burning trailer. Two of the snow machines and the trailer were destroyed by the blaze.

Cecchini says they were group of friends were heading out for a day of snowmobiling.

No one was hurt.

Cecchini says the trailer has been hauled to the city’s yard where fire investigators will have a look at it and see if they can figure out what caused the blaze.

He figures about $75,000 damage was done. One of the sleds was worth about $30,000.
