Fiery four-vehicle crash shuts down Trans-Canada Highway in southeastern B.C.

SICAMOUS, B.C. - Transportation Ministry staff will be assessing the safety of a Trans-Canada Highway bridge in southeastern B.C. after a truck burst into flames following a four-vehicle crash.

Mounties say an SUV lost control and rolled into the middle of the highway, east of Sicamous, on Tuesday night.

Sgt. Dave Dubynk says the driver got out unharmed, but three tractor trailers driving along the Eagle River bridge then slammed into the SUV.

No one was injured, but one of the trailer units caught on fire.

The highway between Sicamous and Revelstoke is expected to be closed for the morning while Transportation Ministry personnel assess the structural integrity of the bridge.

Dubynk says police are investigating the cause of the accident.
