The main highway between the Central and South Okanagan will be shut down for an hour this afternoon.

DriveB.C. is advising motorists that Highway 97 will be closed in both directions north of Summerland, between Bridgeman Road and North Beach Road, from 1 to 2 p.m.

A highway cam shows traffic already backed up at 9 a.m.

Blasting is the reason for the closure. It’s happening where a significant rock slide occurred in 2019.
