Help keep us safe on the roads

City of West Kelowna roadside workers are out in force tending to the community’s boulevards, parks and roadways. Motorists are asked to watch for city maintenance vehicles with flashing yellow lights and obey the provincial legislation to slow down and move over when passing these vehicles.

The Province of B.C. simplified the Slow Down Move Over rule of the Motor Vehicle Act in 2015 to include all vehicles with a flashing light. City of West Kelowna maintenance vehicles are regularly parked on roadways within West Kelowna, some quite narrow.

Drivers must slow their speed to 70 kilometres per hour when in an 80 km/h or over zone and to 40 km/h when in an under 80 km/h zone. If travelling on a multi-lane road, the driver must move into another lane to pass where safe to do so. Failing to adjust your speed appropriately or failing to move over can result in a $173 ticket and three penalty points.

Help us keep West Kelowna’s roadside workers safe this year and Slow Down and Move Over.
