Heavy snow expected on Interior highways today

Be ready for winter driving conditions on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt today.

Be prepared for some tough winter driving conditions on Interior highways today.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, as a Pacific storm moves across the B.C. interior today.

The heaviest snow is expected this afternoon, Nov. 13, with between 25 and 35 cm of snow expected to fall by Saturday morning.

The snow is expected to taper off to flurries this evening as the system moves out of the region, with snow levels rising to 700 metres this afternoon.

A winter storm alert has also been issued for Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. Roughly 30 cm of snow is expected on the highway before it tapers off to a few flurries early Saturday morning.

Hazardous winter driving conditions are expected.
