The community is supporting a Kelowna musician’s significant other after his death was reported earlier this week.

Friends and family of Matt Depper, the 25-year-old lead singer of heavy metal band Apollyon, reported Depper’s death earlier this week. The cause of death is currently unknown.

An online fundraiser has been set up by Depper’s friend George Lindquist who said donations will support Depper’s partner Brittney King and the couple’s unborn child.

The fundraiser has currently reached $16,000 out of its $5,000 goal.

“Matt was one of the most caring people I've ever known and he had so much love for local music and his friends. He would always be up front at our shows and when we asked him to guest on Blood of Gaia he jumped on board with no hesitation. We will always be thankful that we were able to make that happen with you,” heavy metal band ArkenFire wrote in a Facebook post.

Lindquist said on the fundraiser page the goal was doubled in eight hours after the fundraiser began, Jan. 17.

The online fundraiser can be found here.
