OKANAGAN - The Okanagan is going to stay hot this week.

Yesterday, the mercury hit 33.6 Celsius in Penticton, according to Environment Canada, while Kelowna was close at 33 C and Vernon toped out at 32.6 C. That didn’t break any records, but in nearby Cache Creek, residents felt the heat at 38 C, breaking the town’s 25 year old record for the hottest June 25.

Today, June 26, forecasters say the cloud cover is going to break up as the day heats up, reaching 30 C. In the afternoon we can expect a breeze to blow through with gusts up to 40 km/h. Overnight, the wind will stick around, with gusts up to 50 km/h and lows around 12 C.

Tomorrow it’ll be sunnier, but a little cooler, with a high of about 27 C. We can expect clear skies overnight with a low of 13 C.

Wednesday will be almost exactly the same, with a high of 26 C and sunny skies during the day and a low of 12 C at night.

Thursday is forecast to be pretty similar, but a little hotter, with sunny skies and a high of 29 C. At night a low of 15 C is predicted.

Expect sunshine and a high of 28 C on Friday.

Over the long weekend it’ll stay hot, with highs around 31 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 25 C and lows of 11 C.
