Heat men's volleyball take on Bisons at home after last weekend off

This week marks the second week of regular season games for the Heat men’s volleyball team. Coming off of a bye weekend, the Heat will be looking to get back on track as they will defend their home court for the second time this year. This time against the University of Manitoba. The two squads will open the weekend on Friday (Nov. 11) with a game that will begin at 8 p.m. The second game between the two teams will be played Saturday (Nov. 12) with a start time of  7 p.m. Both the games will take place at the UBC Okanagan gymnasium.

With their home opener two weeks ago, the Heat began their season off with a win and a tough loss to the Brandon Bobcats. In the Friday night win UBCO dropped set one and then roared back to win the last thee to claim their first win of the year and first under the lead of coach Brad Hudson. His first in Canada West after an extremely successful stint in the CCAA. The second half of the doubleheader at home saw the Bobcats adapt and win three extremely close sets (26-24, 27-25, 28-26) for the first UBCO loss of the year and a record of (1-1). With the split the and the bye week the Heat are currently in ninth place in Canada West.

With only two games played so far this season, fourth year Lars Bornemann is leading the way for the Heat with 30 kills on the season. Bornemann is joined on the outside by fifth year Alex Swiatlowski, with his 22 kills.

With two games under their belt, the Heat are averaging 14.71 digs per set and 3.5 blocks per set, putting them 1st in the country in both of those categories.

Overall Head to Head vs MAN: (0-10, 0-2) The Heat have never defeated the Bisons, the Manitoba team has won every Canada West conference match and also dropped the Heat in two straight in UBC Okanagan's only trip to the post season (2011-12).
