Head-on collision in West Kelowna sends three to hospital

WEST KELOWNA - A head-on collision in West Kelowna last night sent three people to hospital.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highway 97 South and Elk Road just before 10:30 p.m., May 28, where a blue Pontiac Sunbird had collided head-on with a grey Subaru Impreza, according to an RCMP media release.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says speed may have been a factor in the crash.

“It is believed that the driver of the grey Subaru may have turn left into the path of the oncoming blue Pontiac,” O’Donaghey says in the release.

There were two people in the Subaru; the driver wasn’t seriously injured, but the passenger was trapped inside the wreck before being pulled out by members of the West Kelowna Fire Department and taken to hospital for urgent care, he says.

The driver of the Pontiac was seriously injured and taken to hospital as a precaution. None of them appear to have life-threatening injuries.

RCMP are still investigating the crash and are looking for witnesses. If you saw the collision call 250-768-2880.
