VERNON - Changes to the Vernon School District are up for discussion and it is asking for input and feedback from the public.

The district announced the launch of Vision 2022 a five-year strategic plan today, Oct. 20.

The goal is to set a clear vision for Vernon's education system and identify actions needed to start it, according to a release from School District 22. Research, public engagement and a Stakeholder Advisory Team are a part of the strategic plan.

The district is seeking feedback from teachers, students, parents, staff and all members of the community in order to better shape the plan.

An online questionnaire is open until Nov. 17, 2016. Community meetings will be held in Lumby, Vernon, and the Aboriginal communities.

Vision 2022 is made up of four phases.

The already completed Phase One consisted of background research and framework development. Phase Two is underway now and is centred around public engagement. Looking ahead, Phase Three uses information from phase two to develop the strategic plan and gather feedback. Finally, Phase Four starts in Feb. 2017 and will refine and approve the plan.

An implementation plan will be created to ensure what the school district calls "clear, tangible actions" to put the strategic plan into place.

“Vision 2022 is an invitation to everyone in our community to take a closer look at the future of children’s education and have their ideas reflected in the plan,” superintendent Joe Rogers says in the release. “Together, we will create a vision that develops goals and tangible actions.”
