Fourth suspect arrested in U-Haul holdup

FILE PHOTO - RCMP have taken a fourth suspect in a June 20 roadside robbery at Yellow Lake into custody this morning, July 11, 2019. The suspect will make a court appearance tomorrow.

PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP have arrested a fourth suspect believed to have been involved in a robbery that took place at the rest stop at Yellow Lake on June 20.

RCMP were called to the Yellow Lake rest stop around 4 a.m. after occupants of a U-Haul van called to report being robbed.

They were sleeping inside the van when awoken around 3 a.m. by a man demanding money.

The man had a firearm and threatened the pair, who then handed over personal belongings.

The suspect then locked the two in the back of the van, where they were able to call 911 from a cell phone.

Police located and arrested three suspects in Oliver later that morning, but a fourth suspect eluded them.

Police spokesperson Const. James Grandy says in a press release issued this afternoon police were alerted to the fourth suspect’s whereabouts this morning, July 11.  He was arrested after being found in a residence in Okanagan Falls.

“The accused will be appearing in provincial court on July 12,” Grandy says.
