January 26, 2015 - 3:20 PM

KELOWNA – Four local organizations have received $243,000 in funding from the provincial government through the Community Gaming Grant program.

Organizations Receiving Grants:
C.N.I.B. Southern Interior Region - $100,000
Resurrection Recovery Resource Society - $60,000
John Howard Society of the Central & South Okanagan - $55,000
Kiwanis Club of Kelowna-Summit - $28,000

“The funding going to the C.N.I.B. supports a wide variety of offerings, from counselling and library services to technical aids,” says Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thomson. “This organization gives its clients the confidence and skills to fully participate in our community and enjoy a better quality of life.”

“The Kiwanis Club of Kelowna-Summit embodies the spirit of our community, making a tremendous local impact,” says Premier Christy Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna. "We're pleased to be supporting their Community Donations Program, and the many individuals and families it benefits."

“Addictions recovery, restorative justice, and work experience programs go a long way in helping people re-integrate into the community,” says Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick. “The $115,000 in grants going to the Resurrection Recovery Resource Society and John Howard Society will support this important process.”

This latest round of funding is through the Human and Social Services intake. These grants are used for programs that significantly contribute to the quality of life in the community, including assisting the disadvantaged or distressed, promoting health, or enhancing opportunities for youth.

Every year, the provincial government approves $135 million in gaming grants that benefit more than 5,000 local non-profit organizations that serve communities throughout British Columbia.
