Four drunk drivers nabbed in Vernon in one night: RCMP

In four separate incidents over three hours this past weekend, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP busted drivers for being impaired by alcohol.

It started at about 11 p.m. Saturday night, Nov. 19, when a man was stopped at 32 Street and 32 Avenue in Vernon. The 32-year-old Kamloops man refused to provide a breath sample so was prohibited from driving for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

The same fate befell two other men early Sunday morning who took the breath tests but failed them. That included a 33-year-old Salmon Arm man stopped at 12:45 a.m. on Coldstream Avenue.

At 2 a.m. a 52-year-old Vernon man was pulled over after committing a traffic offence at 35 Street and 29 Avenue and failed the breath test.

A 20-year-old Vernon man was stopped at 1:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of 30 Avenue, was tested and given a three-day suspension of his licence.

“Impaired driving puts everyone at risk and there’s zero tolerance for it,” Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said in a news release. ”We will continue to target and remove impaired drivers through enforcement activities, but the reality is that everyone has an important role to play in keeping our roads safe.

“It starts by making good choices before you get behind the wheel of a vehicle. If you are going to drink, plan ahead to have a safe, sober ride home and do not drive impaired."
