VERNON - Former professional NHL goalie and Hockey Night in Canada star Kelly Hrudey is heading to Vernon and will showcase his broadcasting skills at a charity event.

Hrudey will take to the stage to emcee the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation Charity Classic 10th annual golf tournament held at Predator Ridge Resort Sept. 8.

"We are extremely excited and honoured to have Kelly Hrudey participate in our signature event, and there’s no question that his experiences in the big leagues will prove popular with North Okanagan hockey fans," Charity Classic co-chair Mark Kellock said in a media release.

Following a 15-year career in the NHL with the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks, Hrudey retired in 1998. Hrudey is now an analyst on Hockey Night in Canada and a game analyst for Sportsnet’s Calgary Flames coverage.

"Having Kelly kindly agree to be our emcee is definitely a win for the Charity Classic. I am looking forward to participating with him in the tournament," Paul Docksteader Foundation president Paul Docksteader said in the release. "I am proud to be the title sponsor again this year to support the Hospital and can’t wait to see what the day will bring."

Funds from the golf tournament will go towards much needed surgical equipment at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital says the release.
