COMOX, B.C. - A 40-year-old man has been charged in an explosion that set off a forest fire on Vancouver Island last month.
The RCMP say Yves Joseph Leduc of Cumberland, B.C., is accused of arson, mischief and explosive charges, and a warrant has been issued for a second man on the same charges — 46 year old Gary Andrew Brammer.
Police say an explosion that was deliberately set on May 18 started a forest fire that burned more than two hectares of land owned by the TimberWest forest company near Cumberland, which is south of Comox on the island.
Losses from the fire are estimated at $30,000 while fire fighting costs are put at $60,000.
No one was hurt in the explosion or fire.
