The River Forecast Centre has issued a flood watch warning for areas near Clearwater and Barriere.

As of 12 p.m., June 11, the flood watch includes the North Thompson River including tributaries around Barriere and Clearwater. A flood watch notice was also issued by the District of Clearwater this morning, June 12 as a precaution, according to Mayor Merlin Blackwell.

"Rainfall and snowmelt across the region has led to on-going rises in rivers draining from the Cariboo Mountains over the past week," according to the forecast centre.

"Continued modest rises in river levels are expected over the weekend due to on-going snowmelt. More unsettled weather is in the forecast into next week and may lead to additional rises in river levels at that time."

A high streamflow advisory is also in effect for the Nicola and Lower Thompson Rivers in Merritt and Cache Creek.

More information on river advisories can be found here.
