Canadians travelling to the U.S. can score some deals on retail, while Americans coming to Canada can find savings on cheese, cars, adventures and medicine, according to a recent survey.

Insurance price comparison company HelloSafe.ca shared its survey results in a media release on the five best things to buy on each side of the border.

Canadians travelling into the U.S. can find good deals on beddings and towels, toys, jeans, footwear and electronics.

"Since a lot of toy brands are made in the U.S., it's normal to find some toys cheaper in this country," the release said. "U.S. retailers that sell these toys have prices that can't be beat elsewhere."

Americans who travel north can find deals on cheese, tourist attractions, hotels, new cars and medicine.

Hotels can cost 47% more in American cities than comparable Canadian cities.

"That's why spending holidays in Canada for Americans is definitely a great deal," the release said.

A Toyota Corolla costs approximately $21,603 in Canada compared to $24,902 in the U.S., HelloSafe said. An EpiPen is about a third of the cost in Canada. And mountain equipment, while not necessarily cheaper, has better selections in Canada.

Washington state has a 6.5% sales tax rate, Idaho 6%, and Montana 0%, while sales tax in B.C.'s is 13%. The only province bordering B.C., Alberta, has a sales tax rate of 5%.
