Five new COVID-19 deaths in Interior Health

Of the nine COVID-19-related deaths in B.C. reported since yesterday, five were in the Interior Health region.

The province is reporting 580 new cases of COVID-19 today, 104 of which are in the Interior Health region.

As of Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, 89% (4,123,354) of eligible people 12 years and older in B.C. have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 82.9% (3,842,247) have received their second dose, according to a Ministry of Health press release.

B.C. is reporting 580 new cases of COVID-19, including 11 epi-linked cases, for a total of 195,766 cases in B.C. Of the nine deaths reported since yesterday, five were in Interior Health.

There are 5,348 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 187,985 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 378 individuals are in hospital and 153 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

With the 104 new cases, Interior Health now has 831 active cases.

Unvaccinated people make up the majority of hospitalizations across the province, with 60% being unvaccinated and 7% being partially vaccinated. Thirty-three percent of patients in the hospital with COVID-19 within the last two weeks were vaccinated.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. There are currently 19 active outbreaks in B.C., including five in Interior Health.

Since December 2020, the province has administered 8,008,858 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
