First week of new year starts to warm up in Kamloops

This week temperatures are expected to rise above freezing in Kamloops.

KAMLOOPS - The first week of the new year is starting off cold, however, things are starting to heat up in Kamloops.

Cold weather and cloudy skies are in the forecast early this week but should give way to above-zero temperatures in the Tournament Capital on Friday.

The forecast calls for clouds today, Jan. 2, with temperatures reaching -8 Celsius. Periods of snow are expected to end late this evening. Tonight should remain cloudy as with steady temperatures near -7 C.

Tomorrow plan for mainly cloudy with a high of -4 C becoming cloudy with a low of -8 C at night.

The weather office says more clouds are expected on Thursday but temperatures continue to rise with a high of -2 C. At night, cloudy skies with a low of -3 C are predicted.

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing on Friday reaching 1 C. Environment Canada is predicting a cloudy day.

Over the weekend, forecasters predict temperatures to return below freezing with a 60 per cent chance of flurries on Saturday.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are highs of -1 C and lows of -8 C.
