VERNON - The first provincially-approved cannabis retail store in the Okanagan is opening even sooner than anticipated.

In a press release, store owners Sarah and Carson Ballantyne announced they're opening the Vernon-based Spiritleaf cannabis shop on Canada Day, July 1.

"The end of prohibition is the start of something incredible in the Okanagan," the release said.

The cannabis shop location is #102 2500 53 Avenue.

Spiritleaf is a cannabis retail company with locations throughout western Canada. The release said the company's goal is to provide products and information related to recreational cannabis.

Spiritleaf, which plans to open locations in Kelowna and West Kelowna in the near future, announced the Vernon location's provincial approval last week.
