PENTICTON - There will be fireworks to complete the Canada Day festivities in Penticton.

Ellis-Don, the company building Penticton’s new hospital tower, is sponsoring this year’s fireworks display on July 1. They are scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. on Okanagan Lake.

The fireworks format will be similar to last year’s, with fireworks launched from a barge off Okanagan Lake Park.

Meanwhile, Osoyoos will be holding the one of the biggest fireworks displays in the country, second only to the celebrations in Ottawa.

Annette Star with the Osoyoos Fireworks Society says the popular fireworks display is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. Canada Day, following a full day of Canada Day and Cherry Fiesta events in the town.

“Our pyrotech donates his time,” Star says, adding the society is set to launch $90,000 worth of fireworks this year, after receiving additional funds for Canada's 150 birthday celebrations.

The fireworks, which takes place at Gyro Beach, drew more than 30,000 people last year. This year’s event includes a display of aquatic fireworks with a program timed to music.
