KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets are pleased to announce that a playoff whiteout fundraising campaign organized by Kelowna Firefighters, was a big success raising money for several local charities.

Together with the Rockets fans, the firefighters and its sponsors,  over $16,000 was raised for charity by selling playoff whiteout T-shirts during the Rockets home playoff games this season.

"It was a very successful event for us," said firefighter Patrick Barton. "The money will go towards supporting several local charities. We'd like to thank the Rockets and our sponsors for teaming up with us on this event."

The Rockets played eight home games through the WHL playoffs as the team ousted Tri City and Seattle before losing to Portland in the WHL Western Conference final.

Firefighters were on hand at each of the games, selling the whiteout T-shirts while the shirts were also on sale in the community through Mission Sports and Valley First Credit Union.

Barton said the money raised will be spread throughout several charities that the firefighters support including the Kelowna Food Bank, YMCA Strong Kids, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Kelowna General Hospital  Foundation, the Gospel Mission and Muscular Dystrophy.

It was the first time the firefighters had partnered with the Rockets on a playoff T-shirt campaign and Barton said it was very successful.
