PENTICTON - A large slash pile fire that started on Wednesday night on the Southwest hills of Penticton is nearly out after if was left to burn out naturally.
The Penticton Indian Band fire crew stood by the fire that was approximately 100 square feet and 20 feet high but because of the size of the fire, they had to let it burn out, says Fire Chief Barry Phillip.
The area where the fire was is currently being cleared for development, and it was a slash pile (forest debris) that was set on fire, Phillip says.
The fire was most likely started by a person but there are currently no suspects, he says. There is an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire.
