Fire damages Kelowna building under construction

The Kelowna Fire Department has had their new $1.2-million ladder truck in service for 10 days.

KELOWNA -  Two units of a building under construction at Lakeshore and Richter Street were damaged last night in a fire of unknown origin.

Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a 911 call at around 12:50 a.m. June 28, reporting smoke and flames coming from the top floor of the building. Initial crews used a master stream from Ladder Two to knock the fire down allowing additional crews to make entry and completely douse the blaze, Kelowna Fire Department platoon captain Dennis Miller, said in a press release.

"The fire crews completed overhaul and checked for any extension. Quick action by fire crews limited the fire damage to two units on the sixth floor," said Miller.

Five engines, a command unit, a rescue truck, two ladder trucks and a safety vehicle along with 27 fire personnel were on the scene to fight the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
